McKeon Statement on Interstate 5 Tunnel Accident

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In response to the late-night tragedy on Interstate 5 in Santa Clarita, CA this past weekend, Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) released the following statement:

"First, I'd like to express my sincere condolences to those individuals who unfortunately perished in the highway catastrophe over the weekend and send my wishes for a speedy recovery to all who were injured.

"It is also important that we all stop to thank the first responders to the accident for their extreme bravery and for minimizing damages and injuries sustained at the site.

CalTrans deserves a special acknowledgement for its vital role in recovery efforts of this weekend's disaster and for its excellent work in reopening I-5 by this morning.

"I am eager to hear the California Highway Patrol's assessment of the cause of the multi-vehicle accident so we can see this doesn't occur again in the future.

"I pledge to work with the County of Los Angeles and with State officials to offer any federal assistance available to help restore this important transportation corridor to full operation as quickly as possible."
